Media persons block Dharmatala intersection in protest of attack during NEET rally
A third-year BTech student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati died after allegedly falling from a building on the campus on Sunday. Police confirmed on Monday that an investigation into the incident is currently underway and stated that the possibility of suicide has not been ruled out. The deceased student hailed from Odisha.
In an official statement, IIT-Guwahati expressed deep sorrow over the loss and stated that it is cooperating fully with the investigating authorities. The institute added that it is awaiting the official police findings before sharing further details and confirmed that the student's parents are traveling to the campus, with necessary support being provided to the family. The authorities also appealed to the public and media to refrain from speculation until facts are established.
Highlighting campus mental health resources, the institute urged students who may be going through difficult times to reach out for support. IIT-Guwahati reiterated that counseling assistance is actively provided through its SAATHI Counselling Club and the Centre for Holistic Wellbeing, assuring students that help is available so no one faces hardship alone.
